[Can a journey be unbearably long as well as far too short? Brienne has made such time. King Bran seemed to already know what it was she was asking for before the words came out of her mouth. He has a way about him. Perhaps she would never be accustomed to it. He was wise as well as kind. He had a dazed, knowing smile and bid his knight of the realm to give warmest greetings to his sister.

And now she could see the battlements of Winterfell as a grey dot in the distance. It made her heart beat faster.]

[ She's been waiting for this since the moment Brienne wrote to tell her Bran had given permission for her return. The time has only made Sansa more confident in her choice. It is hard to reach Arya during her journey, but she's written to Jon and he seemed pleased at her "finding some happiness". Her siblings' blessings is all she needs. When a maid arrives to tell her of the approaching horse, she sets down her work for the day and goes down to the gates. She's wearing a regal gray dress, but her crown is left in its usual place in her room. There's no need for ceremony between friends.

When the gates open, Sansa approaches with a small smile. She would love to be much more openly affectionate, but they are unfortunately still in sight of others. ] You made good time, Ser Brienne. I would have expected not to see you till the morrow, or even the day after.

[Messages can travel faster than horses. Brienne wanted to bridge the gap between the news and her arrival as much as possible. The countryside was still healing after it's time of war and strife, it was safe to ride in armor and with sword. She rode as early as she was able to challenging the hours of sunlight. Her thighs, back and legs were sore and exhaustion provided dreamless sleep a few nights. In others she dreamed of flame red hair and clear blue eyes with a smiling face turned up ward to look at her. No matter how tongue tied Brienne knew she would be, she knew this was the right choice.

The large black and grey beast that has faithfully carried her for miles slowly paws the yard. Brienne dismounts and is well aware how her hair must be in a state, how the wind has reddened her face and chapped her lips. She still smiles, winded tired but happy. Somehow Brienne manages to make her gaze drop to the hem of Sansa's fine new clothe as she approaches and kneels as a knight should before a queen. The yard is no longer showing so many scars of the previous battles. The earth was tended, turned and has a light dusting of new fallen snow. Brienne left her white cloak at King's Landing, the bitter cold of the North still tries to dye her dark blue traveling cloak in powder white.]

I thought it best to come as soon as I was able to best please you, Your Grace.

[ Sansa hardly cares how Brienne looks at this moment. Her messy hair and red face only show the journey that she has been though just to see Sansa, to please her. Just like she once dreamed a handsome knight would, when she was a young girl. A blush blooms over her face as Brienne kneels at her feet, which makes absolutely no sense, considering how many men and women have knelt before her since she's taken the throne. Thankfully, given the weather, a flushed face shouldn't draw any unwanted attention. ]

The North is grateful. [ By the North, she mostly means her, though many of her subjects remember Brienne's bravery during the Long Night and her protecting their Queen when she needed it most. A stable boy approaches to escort Brienne's horse away to Winterfell's stables, so it can rest. ] I would have a meal prepared for us in my solar, if you are not too tired. [ She can wait, if that's what Brienne requires after such a long journey. If not, she'll step forward and after Brienne a hand up, so they can walk together, side by side, a queen and her most trusted knight. ]
